Hand Washing Horrors

I am not a germa-phobe, but I think lately I have come close. Now that I work in a health care environment I feel I wash my hands more than the average person, but lately I've noticed some things that really bother me and put me into a foam antibacterial frenzy. This morning I was getting my morning pregnancy snack (one sausage and some scrambled eggs for a mere $0.79- I love employee discounts) and the rather large type man in front of me loaded his hospital cafeteria plastic-ware down with many sausages, biscuits, pancakes, and gravy.... TOGETHER... Now there is nothing really germy about this, but it was a bit gross so I was really trying not to judge until... The man grabbed some napkins and touched a few and then PLACED THEM BACK IN THE PILE!!! I skirted away and grabbed my napkins elsewhere and washed thoroughly before the next patient.

After going through the ritual antibacterial wiping of my desk and phone out of respect to my co-workers (I have a cold okay? Really I don't do this every day) I happily went to pick up my hungry husband where we proceeded to Jason's Deli to dine at the finest salad bar that 15th street has to offer (we're really tired on Fridays). Almost done loading my plate with delicious goodies I eagerly headed toward the mini-spice muffins for dessert and to my horror a couple who was standing in line to order started to pick at the nuts with their BARE hands. I awkwardly turned around and was careful to avoid the nut pile. I sat with my equally horrified husband to enjoy the salad that had lost some of it's charm because of my suspicion that others may have done the same thing without thinking. Then I realized that HA! I was the one with the cold. Stupid people. I expect they'll come down with something, but then again....I do wash my hands regularly.
