The signs of spring are everywhere. Spring thunderstorms and gentle rain, cats shedding and waking up early (oh curse you Daylight Savings time), and of course garage sales. I love them. I haven't had time to go and hunt in awhile, but last Saturday one was brought to me. Okay. So it was really just a mass frenzy of moms at an organized consignment sale, but I loved it.
This citywide consignment is called Just Between Friends. The husband being just as thrifty as I, volunteered to work for 7 hours so I could join the first group to get in the day before the sale. I got there with my borrowed Radio-Flyer Red Wagon early Saturday morning with the line of eager moms and moms-to-be. I sensed the urgency in the air. I fought the urge to knock people down and start shopping, to push through these moms and grab the "best" deal. Instead I remained calm. I promised the husband that I would show kindness to all and that I wouldn't be inconsiderate. After all he was working so I could get in so early!
I spent 3 hours hunting down bargains and getting good deals. The baby has jeans and khakis for every growth stage for the first year. He has some colored onesies and some great hats for the summer. He also has some Lego's and a giant stuffed turtle (it was only $6). I also snagged some cool maternity shirts for not a lot of money (this also made the husband excited.. the saving money, but not the clothes themselves). My mom also requested that I get her a few items to make her house more baby friendly. I was excited about the glider, pack & play, and great high chair that baby boy will enjoy fully when at grandma's house.
The only real incident was the person who tried to steal my incredible turtle off the wagon while I was trying on maternity clothes. The kind lady monitoring the "changing room" stopped her.
Now most of the mom's were nice and we all laughed and chatted while shopping so I can't complain. I am starting to feel like the baby might need a crib, and maybe a dresser to put these clothes into.

Ah, spring and garage sales. I'm envious. And I'm glad the changing lady put the smack down on the would-be turtle theif. The nerve...
