Friday morning the baby got up at five am and would have nothing to do with sleep. He was quite perky and cheerful at the beginning, but by the time we reached bible study he had the "crazy" eyes. I thought he might sleep in the nursery, but I suspected he wouldn't. He feels it's beneath him to sleep anywhere but his room really.
At home I fed the kids and then put everyone down for a much-needed nap. I even got a pillow and a blanket for myself and settled into the soft couch, but not before I took out the hamper full of five loads of clean laundry and dumped it in the middle of the living room. This was just to remind me that I needed to fold it sometime that day.
I settled into the couch and called the husband. He said that he would help fold and we could sit and watch Psych that evening, so I needed to take a nap. Thinking that was a fabulous idea I drifted off to sleep.
The baby slept for about an hour. I went to rock him, but he let me know he was having no more of this sleeping business today.
I called the husband. He asked if I was ready for a surprise and at this point as long as it was a good surprise I was ready.
"Well, I got a babysitter and we are going to the IMAX theater to see Avatar. I bought the tickets on Monday!" said the husband.
"Really? Yay, you lied about watchig Psych, but this is much better. " I said looking at the laundry that I had uncharacteristically dumped in my living room.
I was pumped about getting out to watch a movie, but realized that the babysitter probably wouldn't appreciate walking around all the laundry. I decided that enough is enough and started to fold. I folded, folded, folded, and folded. The toddler was very helpful as anyone with a toddler can well imagine.
That evening we munched on popcorn and watched Avatar with our super nerdy 3-D glasses. About 45 minutes into it the movie stopped. Thirty minutes later that manager said that the 3-D was broken but they would continue to play the movie and give rain checks for any other I-Max movie. Half of the theater emptied. We moved to better seats and watched the rest of the movie in 2-D, feeling that this was a pretty good bargain.
That evening my mom called and said she was coming to babysit on Saturday so the husband and I could go to lunch and a movie. Even though I'd just seen a great movie I wasn't going to quibble over free babysitting offers.
Saturday we enjoyed a nice lunch. We came back, fed the baby, and went to see Sherlock Holmes.
Wow. Two movies in one weekend? I feel like I'm back in college.

Such a treat. We saw 2 as well when we went to see my parents in KY and it felt so decadent. I thought Holmes was fun. We are huge fans of the series that was on BBC or PBS when we were kids - even have them on VHS (nerd alert!) so it was fun to see him brought up again. RD Jr did better than I thought anyone could. glad you got to do it!
It was pretty good. It's one where we want to rent it to catch more the next time around.
We're going to watch Avatar in 3D on Saturday night! Such fun!
