Tag I'm It

Okay folks. You only have 24 more hours to comment on the below post to be in the drawing for a box of happiness. I have only 5 comments which I think entitles the husband to be part of the drawing so that will make him happy.

Now, my sister tagged me and I already posted on my other website, but I really wanted to tag City Mama , Stella, and Stacey. So you can read the post and choose to accept this tag offer. No big deal if you can't, but I am having so much fun reading about other's quirks that I couldn't resist. So, here are 5 quirks about me and I hope to find out 5 quirks that make you, you.

1. I hate public speaking. I will do it if forced, but I start to sweat and get nervous when someone asks me to get up in front of groups larger than 2-3 people. In college my major required that I take a public communication class where you had to practice your public speaking, so I signed up for the 7:30 am class. My theory was that not many college students would be in the class that early so I wouldn't being speaking to a large group. Unfortunately a lot of people thought the same thing and it was a fairly large class of at least 40 people who hated speaking in front of large groups. At least at I had most afternoons free to study because of the early morning class.

2.I am not a morning person. You can ask anyone in my family and they will tell you that I am grouchy and don't take teasing well in the morning. In fact, I really don't speak much until I have had my cup of coffee or a shower. Don't mock me in the morning because you may regret it. I have gotten somewhat better since I've had baby that loves mornings (he is like his dad), but I think it might be because my husband lures me out of bed with the promise of breakfast and coffee. Oh, yeah and that I am still nursing so I have to get up to feed our child.

3. I hate being hot. Not only do I hate being hot, but I have a high internal temperature so it doesn't take much to make me hot. The husband says that I have Thermonuclear Feet which he likes in winter and avoids in the summer months. I really hate turning the heat on in the winter and must run the air at all times in the summer. While we lived in CA and in DC we only had a window air unit in the living room. Most of the time this was fine in CA, but I was so miserable in DC that we slept on a blow up mattress in the living room with a fan blowing on my feet. I am growing. I think. I am glad that we have working air here in the tropics, but I think I was made to live in Mongolia. I am not sure, maybe it is just my life long test to live in warm weather climates.

4. I am hooked on chapstick and have to have a chapstick available at all times. I have one in the diaper bag, my purse, the coffee table, the secretary, and the husband's pocket. I am addicted and have made the husband promise that if I am ever in a coma that he will apply chapstick to my lips every hour and maintain my eyebrows, but that is another story for another time.

5. I like the kitchen clean or at least neat before I eat the meal I just prepared. In first grade we had to fill out a sequencing worksheet on how to make a milkshake. The choices were make the milkshake, get the ingredients, eat the milkshake, and clean up the milkshake. I decided that it made more sense to clean up the milkshake before you ate the milkshake and marked my sheet accordingly. My teacher took off points and I remember the injustice to this day. When the husband feels that I am being obsessive in the kitchen he says, "Fine, let's just clean up the milkshake and then we'll drink the milkshake."

OK, I'm taking the bait. I'm compelled to respond because most of MY quirks are the complete opposite of yours! Talk about quirky!

1) I enjoy public speaking. In fact, I prefer it to interacting in a group, which is always daunting for me. (My all-time favorite way to speak is one-on-one.) I was in debate for one year and speech for four years in high school. (I also used to do solos in choir since I was in third grade, no problem.) I do not get nervous beforehand, and only get a bit of a rush afterward. I don't get to do it very often anymore, and I miss the thrill.

2) I am a CRAZY morning person. As soon as I am awakened, I am completely wide awake and functional. I have been my entire life. My dad (another morning person) and I used to wake up very early and go fishing, or go for donuts, or go find a sunrise together. To this day, if a baby awakens anytime after 4:30am, and I have to get up with said baby, I am up for the day. I get the most done and have the most quiet time to myself in the morning, which I treasure. My children are also morning people, and I'm quite grateful for that.

3) I do not mind being hot. Everyone and their dog's brother warned me that I would just DIE when I moved to Texas in August. I did not die. I found that I am very acclimated to heat, and hardly broke a sweat during the hottest month here. I can count on one hand how many times I've sweat due to the weather since we moved. I take such hot baths that my skin is red when I get out. I fall asleep best with a burning heating pad on my back. What I DON'T like, is being cold!

4) I do not use chapstick regularly since I've moved to the jungle in Texas. I put some vaseline on my lips before bed every night, and that's it. I own maybe one stick; it's rolling around the minivan somewhere.

5) My kitchen is a disaster. Always. You could eat a meal off of the crumbs on your feet and the chunks of food and splats on the stove top. I clean it about once a week, if I get around to it. I feel like it's fruitless to clean it, as it gets dirty almost immediately. Totally sisyphean. And frankly, the baby will eat the food that falls to the floor moments after he rejected it on his high chair tray.

Your quirks are very enjoyable. I think it is funny that you are the exact opposite from me.Maybe that is why we are friends. Your "oppositeness" is refreshing to me. Now I have a question. I hate talking on the phone...from the list I am going to have to assume that you like it?

I would say that generally, I do not enjoy talking on the phone ... I much prefer catching up face-to-face! If I cannot see a person (like just about everyone in my life right now) I don't mind talking on the phone so much. And all things considered, I probably communicate the most with people -- you guessed it -- via email and blogs! =)
