Happy Holi Ya'll

Easter is approaching and the Lenten season is over. As I was processing what we are going to do for Easter I got an e-mail from a friend who lives overseas. She mentioned that this year the Hindu holiday Holi falls between Good Friday and Easter. So, I did a little research and thought I would share about this incredibly fascinating and so very non-American-like holiday.

A lot of people in America dye Easter eggs and have Easter egg hunts. Well the holiday Holi takes dye to the next level. It is called the Festival of Colours and lasts for 3 days according to this article. On the second day of this festival people throw colored water on each other. Can you imagine walking around your city and having people throw dye on you? From what I was reading it can take a few days to wear off. The card above depicts people in this activity and "hopes you have a good time." I assure you if I lived in where people participated in throwing colors at you on the street I would have an incredibly good time. I would also not wear my Easter dress out on the streets, but that is just me.

I guess some of the homemade colors can be somewhat of a health hazard, but if you want do know more you can read that here. You can even be eco-friendly if you want. Read about that here. (Though I have to make a side note that I feel the city-wide bonfires the night before probably aren't the most ego friendly. Then again I don't know from experience; you'll have to ask my friend who lives there.)

I won't bore my readers with history , but if you are a nerd and want to know more read here. Then e-mail me and we can discuss how we fared in school because we liked history.

So now I will leave you with some fun pictures of the holiday. You're welcome.

*Note most of the information I have about this holiday (aside from what my friend told me) I found on the internet. You may choose to believe or not believe, according to your willingness to accept things that appear on the internet as true. Up to you.
