The Date

After the boy was born the husband and I haven't been to many movies together. Not that it's a big deal, but movies plus a babysitter is expensive and our child was never one that we could take with us. Instead we opted for the Blockbuster online. The videos are delivered right to your door and you can trade them in for the videos at the store when you are done. So, we got into the habit of having movie nights in our own comfy apartment. We got used to having the closed captions on because our TV was right next to the boy's room. We turned down the TV because gunfire or dramatic music isn't a pleasant way to wake up a sleeping baby. When we moved into our house we were so used to the closed captions that we just kept using them.

Last night we had a babysitter and decided that we were way behind in our movie watching. We saw that The Quantum Solace was playing at the dollar theater and we decided it was perfect. We ate at home and then left the boy with the babysitter. We proceeded to the Baskin Robbins near the theater and got ice cream cones. Though cold, my chocolate chip mint ice cream was heavenly. After we jogged to the theater to warm up the husband purchased the tickets in the cold outside line. Since it was only a dollar (actually $1.75 since it was a Saturday night) the husband decided it wasn't a terrible splurge to popcorn so I stood in the popcorn line.

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting munching on popcorn and watching the movie. About 3/4 of the way through I leaned over and asked the husband what one person had said and his reply was, "I don't know. They don't have the closed captions on." Huh, I guess we're turning into old people.

Hysterical! I guess that's the one benefit of a child who won't nap during the day: it takes an Act of God to wake her at night. We discovered this the one time grandparents visited and allowed Jeff and me some time out. We came back and nearly went through the roof when we discovered they had a movie on at almost the highest volume. But, amazingly, the baby slept. Crazy!

We do the blockbuster online as well. We cancelled our cable b/c there really is nothing on for $80 a month and did the online thingy. I think its great. Nice to either have one sent or take back to blockbuster. Heard the new Brad Pitt movie is good and we're thinking of going next weekend. He's not my thing normally but he's usually in a decent movie.
