I am making blueberry muffins while the husband is making cinnamon rolls. The reason for all the late Friday night cooking is that I offered to throw a friend a baby shower and it happens to be tomorrow morning.
She is a friend through the husband's work and has two other friends who wanted to host a shower as well. They decided to invite me to join them so we could throw her one big shower. Knowing that my friend was due right after Christmas and didn't have time for 2 showers, I agreed. It only took one meeting with these aforementioned friends for me to realize that they were from a different world.
At our "baby shower meeting" they decided that a catered brunch would be just the thing since neither one of them liked to cook. I volunteered to help cook, but they thought the catering idea was much, much better. I was delegated the flowers, but I could tell they had a friendly skepticism that I wouldn't be up to the task.
I went home and the husband and I decided that we would just go with it because we really wanted to make sure this particular friend felt loved.
The last few months I've been a bit out of the loop. I just prayed that the shower would come together and that it would be nice for my friend.
Being out of the loop, I wasn't expecting the call this Wednesday from the other two to inform me that catering, "was just too expensive." Not surprised by this fact I asked what I could do to help. They said they were ordering salad and making sandwiches and that I could come help Friday night. I started to worry since I know neither of them really cook. I volunteered to cook some breakfast items seeing how it was a brunch shower. They eagerly agreed and said not to worry about coming over since I was cooking a lot of items.
The husband realizing how much money we were saving said he would make his famous homemade cinnamon rolls for me. In fact, he made a double batch. That's true love. I am making muffins and quiche. Tomorrow morning I will load the car, pick up the flowers, and head to set up all of our delicous items.
Is it a bad thing that I can't wait for the shower to be over?
