Pre-Registered

I am now going every 2 weeks to the doctor. This week she gave me the paper to pre-register at the hospital. My dad was off and took the boy to play while I went up to labor and delivery to pre-register.

It was really crowded. Check is on the Women's Health floor where all the women's surgery, tests, and labor/delivery take place. I felt like I took up a lot of space at the counter. People were coming and going behind me and I would step forward. The man filling out paperwork in front of me would step back suddenly, look startled when he hit my belly, and would apologize profusely. I didn't mind, but was pretty relieved when I got up to the front desk. I filled out some paperwork and put on the bracelet like I was actually being admitted to the hospital. (hospital policy I guess.)

I then sat down. The financial counselor came out and we went to her office to chat about any insurance questions. I'm not a low maintenance patient and was really happy to pre-pay and have nagging questions answered.

I sat down again. This time next to a chatty 50 year old who told me of all the dangers of epidurals and how my baby could be addicted to drugs if I used one. I smiled sweetly and was secretly glad when she was called up for her mammogram.

Then the kind nurse came and got me. She had me sign my life away, took my blood pressure, and told me the basic labor routine.

Then I left. Now I can just wander up to the labor and delivery floor and get a room. I feel a bit more prepared. Well, except for the dread of the excruciating pain, but hey, I'll deal with that when the time comes. Until then, let's pray the baby cooks nicely and isn't doughy in the middle.

Wow. That's a lot more involved than our first hospital. We just had to fill out a form and drop it off and that was that. Glad you're ready to go!

No worries. Ours is still very doughy in the middle and he's just fine. Sorry about the epidural lady. What is it about pregnancy that brings out the worst in some people?
