Women's Undergarments

I went bra shopping with my mother-in-law this weekend. She mentioned she went to Victoria's Secret and got a lot of new bras, but that they just weren't comfortable so she's never worn them. I can sympathize. I believe that they have some decent undergarments and pj's, but I'm prejudice against their so called "bra fittings" and fancy bras.

It all started during the pregnancy when a teeny bopper measured me around my bulky sweater and pregnant belly and pronouncing me a ridiculous size and wasn't convinced when I told her that it wasn't at all supportive or comfortable. Then when trying to find a nursing bra I had to go to a specialty store to order one that fit me well. When I found one I discovered a stark comparison to the fashionable Victoria.

There were not men allowed past the front in the specialty store. It was pleasant to be able to look and try on undergarments without the fear of hormonal teenage boys or other men who feel comfortable walking around Victoria's. It has always annoyed me that men are allowed any where in the store (I've seen men in the dressing rooms people) and I just don't relish shopping for intimate items around men. The fact is that men are more visual than women and I just don't like the idea of even a glance in my direction. My husband doesn't ogle other women and I don't like being ogled at. At the speciality store I felt comfortable talking to the saleswomen and actually telling her the size I was wearing without the leering. (Maybe I'm just paranoid, but seriously, it's hard enough shopping for these kind of things isn't it ladies?)

The salespeople at a specialty store know what they are doing. They measure you in the dressing room and tell you how the bra needs to fit. They don't measure around a bulky sweater and around your pregnant belly and then insist that you are crazy because their perfect measurements don't fit. They also can tell you the different brands of undergarments and how they each fit, if they run small or large, and how they support you. Oh, and they actually know about nursing and what you need to wear.

The specialty store also carries just about every size available along with a multitude of nursing bras. What does this mean to me? It means that they will actually get an accurate measurement and be able to let you try on different brands and sizes. Victoria's Secret only carries the "normal" size and isn't it funny how everyone they measure is within the sizes that they carry. I find that a little too hard to believe. In fact I don't know many people who have been just ecstatic with Victoria.

All that to say that my mother-in-law had a sympathetic ear. It took me about 6 weeks with my first born to find a correctly fitting nursing bra that was (gasp) comfortable and supportive. That is no small task.

So, we bonded and I took her to my favorite specialty store. She's so much happier now and so am I.

*If anyone loves Victoria Secret and needs about 3 never worn bras please feel free to contact me. My mother-in-law is giving them to whoever needs them:)
*If anyone in my area wants to know my favorite store please let me know. I'll refer you. The lady in the small shop knows me now because I've referred so many people.

I'm with you on VS. I have had a $25 gift card for that store for 2 years now. They probably wont even redeem it at this point but i just cannot find anything I'd pay money for in there and I hate their bras!
