Busy August

I didn't think August would be this busy, but it is. This was the only weekend that we didn't have something and it was full of catch up things to do.

The husband put in new weather stripping on the doors (it's hot and we were letting all the bought air out!), we went grocery shopping, the husband made a trellis for our blackberry bush, I weeded our beds and the husband help kill the grass next to the beds so the bermuda would stop taking over.

I took our vacuum in for his regular maintenance and repair (don't mock me, it's a nice vacuum that I plan on keeping forever), visited my grandmother in assisted living, and am catching up on our budget and blogging.

During all this we've played with our boys, gone to most of law firm events, and tried to keep all the crankiness down because of the heat. My boys take after me. Oh fall how do I love thee.....

Now, all I need to do is make pesto and freeze it this afternoon. the recipe I have requires pine nuts. Do all grocery stores mark up pine nuts? Seriously? Where can you get them in bulk for reasonable prices? At least pesto won't require an oven. It's so hot that I told the husband if he wants banana bread, I  would have to cook it after dark and turn down the air. I think he might go for it.

pine nuts are always really expensive. Even Costco sells a bag for $30. You don't have to use them, though. We use walnuts, instead, in our recipe.

That's good to know. I'll try that. Every time I hear mention of Costco I get sad. The nearest one is 5 hours away.....
