What I am Learning While Nursing

I am in my fourth week of nursing. It seems to be going fine with a few minor mishaps and an occasional break down into tears from sheer exhaustion, but I am learning a lot. Once the little one gets the hang of nursing you have one hand in which to do things. I have found 3 things that I do often.

The first thing that I fall back on is the handy computer. I can check websites and check the e-mail, but actual typing takes awhile (hence the lack of blogging going on). I have discovered many new fun websites. I am still searching for the perfect comfy nursing bra online so if anyone has a suggestion on where to browse feel free. I have discovered multiple blogs and enjoy catching up on many friends and strangers lives. (What can I say? I don't have much of a life right now myself)

The second fall back, when the computer gets old, is reading. A friend suggested that I get a bunch of books that I have been wanting to read or re-read and read them whilst nursing. I thought she was joking when she first told me that is what she did the first year, but as it turns out it makes the time go by faster and the baby and I are both a lot happier with the situation. I can't really do anything else around the house and it distracts me from the dust bunnies that are piling up around here. It was historical fiction last month and this month I have decided to go through all the classics that I love and have been meaning to read. Jane Austen is a most beloved friend this week.

The last thing that I have found to entertain me is TV. The trusty husband purchased cable for those night time feedings when all I can do it sit with the baby and stare comatose at the TV. I can see why they put a lot of info commercials on late at night. (that vegetable chopper looks amazing, I need one... wow! If I take that pill I could look like that?) I haven't ordered anything mind you, but I can see how late night can increase the companies sales. However, I can tell you that Dawson's Creek is on at 4 in the morning, re-runs of 24 are on at 7 am, and What Not to Wear is on around 11:00. Then there are the occasional Discovery channel specials, but the husband is cutting me off on some of these. I guess it was the paranoia that comes from watching episodes of high risk child birth shows. Or maybe it was the TLC special about a woman kidnapping a baby and my determination to never leave the house again after watching it. Regardless, of these husband controlled restrictions I am finding having cable most enjoyable. I am sure I'll learn more of the late night line up, but then again maybe he'll start sleeping through the night. (Isn't it sad when 6 hours of straight sleep sounds like luxury?)

Am I still baby blue. Absolutely, but these 3 things keep me sane. I hear that he drops a night feeding soon and that the month old cranky period peaks at 6 weeks, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel... or so I hear.

Hey gal, sure thinking of you a lot. The pics of your little guy are sooo cute! What a little sweetie! Hope you're still hanging in there. :-)

Thanks for adding me to your goodreads. I actually just joined a book club and told a fellow book club friend that I needed to check out what you're reading in yours. You always seem to be reading some neat things. :-)

Okay, just checking in. Hope you're doing well!!
